“Three Irish-Jewish Connection” presents three chapters in this fascinating history. First, the role of the global Jewish community in providing aid during Ireland’s Great Hunger, the worst European disaster of the 19th century. Second, Ireland’s proud relationship with the Jewish community, as highlighted by President of Ireland Mary McAleese’s visit to Congregation Shearith Israel in Manhattan in 2010. Third, the story of large community Jews who escaped WW2 Austria and settled in Northern Ireland.

Dr. Christine Kinealy is an Irish historian, author, and founding director of Ireland’s Great Hunger Institute at Quinnipiac University. She is an authority on Irish history.

Turlough McConnell is President & CEO of Ireland in America Communications and serves as Chairman of Ireland’s Great Hunger Board. He is also a Noble Street neighbor of the Greenpoint Shul.

Peter Murphy is a noted researcher of Irish history and the author of several works, including, “Poor, Ignorant Children: Irish Famine Orphans In Saint John, New Brunswick”
