A group of counterculture high school seniors navigate friendship, romance, and identity in the shadow of Israel’s War of Attrition with Egypt in 1970. They spend a last intense summer together, split between parties, a talent show, and draft notices.
A group of close friends celebrate bittersweet changes during the summer of their high-school graduation: adolescent romance, adult responsibilities, and the sobering reality that some are being drafted into an Israeli army engaged in active war.
Restored after thirty years, this Israeli youth classic in the spirit of Dazed and Confused and American Graffiti portrays the paradox of Israeli adolescence in raw, deeply human terms. It captures the uncertainty, confusion, and playful embrace of the present, constantly shadowed by military service, tempered by days at the beach and rock music. Drawing from his own experiences, director Renen Schorr and writer Doron Nesher create a powerful and bitterly funny anti-war message by drawing on the restlessness of the young men and women as they cope with their growing fatalism.
