Role Description

The Major Gifts Officer is a full-time, hybrid role based in Newton, MA, with the flexibility to work from home for part of the week. This position is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, including identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individuals, families, and foundations. The Major Gifts Officer will conduct prospect research, develop tailored cultivation and solicitation strategies, and prepare proposals, reports, and donor communications in coordination with senior leadership. Day-to-day responsibilities include regular donor meetings, event participation, collaboration with colleagues in advancement, alumni relations, and program areas, and tracking activities and outcomes in the donor database. The role also supports planned giving and annual fund initiatives and contributes to overall philanthropic strategy to advance Hebrew College’s mission and programs.

Qualifications

  • Five to ten years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, gift solicitation, and/or building sustained philanthropic relationships
  • Familiarity with the Boston Jewish community; if you don’t know the community yet, we’ll be happy to introduce you!
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Conscientious and reliable follow-up and attention to detail
  • A collaborative, collegial approach and willingness to pitch in wherever needed
  • A sense of humor
