About Adath Congregation
Adath Israel Poale Zedek Anshei Ozeroff Congregation, known simply as Adath, is a Modern Orthodox synagogue located in Hampstead, Quebec, a suburb of Montreal. The congregation was formed by Adath Israel (founded 1930), which amalgamated with Congregation Poale Zedek (founded 1910) in 1992 and with Congregation Anshei Ozeroff (founded 1918) in 2003, uniting decades of Montreal Jewish communal history under one roof.
Today, led by Rabbi Michael Whitman and Assistant Rabbi Alex Zweibel, Adath describes itself as a close-knit, family-oriented community known for its warmth to newcomers and innovative programming. Recent congregational offerings have included participatory learning events, a men’s Wilderness Retreat Shabbaton, musical and cultural celebrations, and support groups such as JACS (Jewish Alcoholics, Chemically Dependent Persons, and Significant Others).
Adath is a proud member of the Orthodox Union and continues to serve the Hampstead and greater Montreal Jewish community through daily and Shabbat services, adult education, youth programming, and a range of social and spiritual offerings for members of all ages.
