About Chabad West Village
Chabad West Village is a Jewish community center located in Manhattan’s West Village, co-directed by Rabbi Berel and Chana Gurevitch. Founded in 2018, the center serves an evolving mix of longstanding residents, business people, professionals, and young families in one of New York City’s most storied neighborhoods. Its mission is to imbue life with the beauty and relevance of authentic Judaism — inviting community members to discover, connect, and celebrate.
The center offers a wide range of religious, educational, and social programming throughout the year. Weekly Shabbat experiences include Friday night dinners with guest speakers, a Shabbat Matinée, and the Shabbat 24|6 program. Holiday programming spans the full Jewish calendar, including Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services with an acclaimed cantor and children’s program, Passover seders, Sukkot, Chanukah, Purim, and Shavuot celebrations.
Educational offerings include Village Hebrew school for children, Baby Loves Shabbat for young families, Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation, one-on-one Torah study, adult classes led by Rabbi Berel on foundational Jewish texts, and a Women of the Village program. The center also operates a Braided Challah Bakery, Tefillin Bank, and Mezuzah Bank.
Beyond programming, Chabad West Village provides life cycle support, counseling, and hospital visitation — Rabbi Berel serves as Chaplain at Lenox Hill Greenwich Village, where he directs ongoing religious programming. The center welcomes Jews of all backgrounds and levels of observance, with no prior knowledge required to participate.
