About Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières – USA

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent medical humanitarian organization that offers medical humanitarian assistance to people based solely on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender, or political affiliation. Founded in 1971, MSF now works in dozens of countries, providing emergency medical care to people caught in crises such as armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, natural disasters, and exclusion from health care.

Doctors Without Borders USA was founded in 1990 in New York City to raise funds, create awareness, recruit field staff, and advocate with the United Nations and the US government on humanitarian concerns. As one of MSF’s fundraising and recruitment offices, MSF-USA supports the movement’s global operational centers, which directly manage MSF’s medical humanitarian projects around the world.

MSF is best known for sending doctors, nurses, logisticians, and other specialists into some of the world’s most difficult and dangerous places, from conflict zones to disease outbreaks to the aftermath of natural disasters. The organization is a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and has more than 50 years of experience responding to emergencies and epidemics globally.
