About H-Town Jews @ Congregation Beth Israel

H-Town Jews is the young professionals affinity group of Congregation Beth Israel, Houston’s oldest and one of the largest Reform Jewish congregations. Led by Assistant Rabbi Sam Rheins, the group brings together Jewish young adults roughly ages 22-35 for periodic happy hours, Shabbat dinners, holiday-themed socials, and other fun activities designed to help participants meet old friends and make new ones across Houston’s Jewish community.

H-Town Jews frequently partners with other local young Jewish community groups, such as Houston Hillel’s Jewston, on joint Shabbat dinners and social mixers, and it has also hosted programming like sushi-making nights in the congregation’s sukkah and an “Unkosher” comedy show and social.

Congregation Beth Israel itself, founded in 1854, is the oldest Jewish congregation in Texas and serves more than 1,500 households across the Greater Houston area. It maintains an active affiliation with the Union for Reform Judaism and offers a full range of worship, education, and community programming, of which H-Town Jews is the dedicated track for young Jewish professionals.
