Indiana University Bloomington

Since 1938, IU Hillel (the Helene G. Simon Hillel Center) has been the hub of Jewish life on the Indiana University Bloomington campus, serving over 4,000 Jewish students as well as the broader Bloomington Jewish community. Hillel offers a wide range of religious, cultural, and social programming designed to help Jewish college students recognize and develop their leadership potential while expressing their Jewishness in traditional and creative ways.

IU Hillel hosts daily programming including Shabbat and holiday celebrations, Jewish learning cohorts, and 15-20 student clubs and organizations, such as the Business Leadership Initiative, the Hooshir a cappella group, and Hoosiers for Israel. Students can also take university-credit courses taught through Hillel and get involved with signature initiatives like Challah for Hunger and Jewber Eats.

Beyond campus programming, IU Hillel connects students to immersive Jewish experiences such as Birthright Israel trips, alternative breaks, and national Hillel leadership development opportunities. The organization is guided by a statewide governing board of lay leaders from around Indiana along with a student leadership cabinet, and strives to be a ‘Jewish home away from home’ for students attending IU.
