About Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor

The Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor serves as the central philanthropic and community-building organization for the Jewish community in Washtenaw County, Michigan. Originally founded in 1961 as the United Jewish Appeal of Washtenaw County to raise funds for Israel and overseas needs, the organization has grown into a full-service Federation that funds and connects a network of local agencies, synagogues, and programs, including the Jewish Community Center of Ann Arbor and the Hebrew Day School.

The Federation describes itself as the vibrant hub of a community that celebrates Jewish life, acting as a safety net that enables Jews to fulfill communal obligations of mutual care. It runs an annual community campaign and directs local allocations, donor-restricted funds, and donor-directed gifts to beneficiary agencies, while also supporting overseas partners such as the Jewish Agency for Israel.

Aligned with the national priorities of the Jewish Federations of North America, the organization focuses on building a Jewish community in Ann Arbor that is welcoming, safe and secure, educated and engaged, civically active, and connected to Israel and global Jewry. Its work spans philanthropy, community relations, engagement programming, and security initiatives (LiveSecure) for the local Jewish community.
