About Jewish Relief Agency
Founded in 2000, the Jewish Relief Agency (JRA) is a Philadelphia-based hunger-relief organization built on the conviction that no member of the community should go hungry. What began as a simple monthly food-box delivery program for a small number of families has grown into a large-scale volunteer-powered operation serving thousands of individuals each month across Greater Philadelphia.
JRA’s core Monthly Food Distribution Program delivers nearly 500,000 pounds of nutritious food annually directly to more than 6,500 individuals and families facing food insecurity, along with essentials like diapers, menstrual products, and school supplies that aren’t covered by SNAP benefits. The agency brings together volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to pack and deliver food boxes, fostering a strong sense of community and connection between donors, volunteers, and recipients.
Beyond food distribution, JRA has expanded its mission over time to address the broader physical, social, and spiritual needs of the community it serves, recognizing that families facing food insecurity often struggle with additional challenges. The organization hosts an annual fundraising event, The Fight for Relief, to support its growing programs and operations.
