Mount Zion Temple

Mount Zion Temple is a Reform Jewish congregation in St. Paul, Minnesota, founded in 1856 by eight German-Jewish families as the Mount Zion Hebrew Association, making it the first Jewish congregation in Minnesota. The congregation has grown into a diverse, inclusive, multigenerational community devoted to life-long learning, worship, and acts of loving kindness, while seeking justice in the wider world.

The temple’s current sanctuary on Summit Avenue, completed in 1954, was designed by internationally recognized architect Erich Mendelsohn and remains an architecturally significant landmark in St. Paul. Mount Zion offers religious school and youth engagement programs, adult learning opportunities, worship services (including live-streamed services), and a wide range of community and social action programming.

Mount Zion Temple welcomes single adult, interfaith, and LGBTQ households as well as one-parent and adoptive families, reflecting its commitment to inclusivity. Membership is open to households in which at least one person is Jewish, and the congregation continues its long history of community engagement and social action in the Twin Cities.
