About Stephen Wise Temple and Wise School
Stephen Wise Temple is a modern, vibrant Reform Jewish congregation founded in 1964 by Rabbi Isaiah Zeldin with just 35 families, and it has grown into one of the largest Reform Jewish synagogues in the world. Perched on an 18-acre campus in the Sepulveda Pass/Bel Air area of Los Angeles, the Temple is inspired by the vision of Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise, founder of the American Reform Movement, and seeks to make meaning and change the world through acts of loving kindness, mindful study of Torah, worship, and a strong commitment to the Jewish people and Israel.
The Wise community is more than a synagogue: it encompasses Wise School, a top-tier K-6 elementary school and Early Childhood Center, as well as the Center for Youth Engagement (offering Religious School, B’nei Mitzvah preparation, and teen programs) and the Center for Jewish Life, which hosts adult learning, speaker series, and cultural events. The Temple offers regular Shabbat and holiday worship (in person and via livestream), lifecycle officiation, and a wide range of programs for families, youth, and adults.
With clergy including Senior Rabbi Yoshi Zweiback, Stephen Wise Temple emphasizes a strong connection to Israel and world Jewry alongside a deep commitment to social justice, welcoming members and visitors of all backgrounds into its mountaintop community.
