Tanger Hillel of Brooklyn College

Tanger Hillel at Brooklyn College is the campus Hillel serving Jewish students at Brooklyn College (CUNY). It is the only dedicated Hillel building across the City University of New York system and is recognized as one of the largest Hillel facilities in New York and among the premier Hillels across North America. The Hillel House serves as a ‘home away from home’ for a diverse population of commuter students, including Russian-speaking, Israeli, Kavkazi, Bukharin, Orthodox, and American Jewish students.

With over 15 Jewish student groups and a dedicated staff, Tanger Hillel provides a wide range of meaningful programs and opportunities to engage the 4,000+ Jewish students at Brooklyn College and throughout New York City. Programming spans Shabbat and holiday services, student fellowships, community service, Israel education and engagement, and leadership development. Student-run groups include the Orthodox Club, a Holocaust/Yom HaShoah Committee, the Hillel Club, and Israel-focused initiatives.

Israel engagement is central to Tanger Hillel’s work, featuring an Israel Learning Fellowship, partnerships with Masa Israel Journey, and on-campus Israel Fellows. The Hillel also plays a leading role in Brooklyn College’s participation in Hillel International’s Campus Climate Initiative, working with the college administration on combating antisemitism and building an inclusive campus environment.

Beyond its current students, Tanger Hillel maintains an active alumni community that serves as ambassadors, donors, and champions of its mission, helping grow a network of young alumni connected to the organization’s work.
