About Temple Emanu-El South Beach
Temple Emanu-El is a Conservative congregation located at 1701 Washington Avenue in Miami Beach, Florida, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful synagogues in America. Its impressive Byzantine and Moorish-inspired rotunda building, topped by a copper dome rising more than ten stories, has served as a spiritual home for the South Beach Jewish community since its sanctuary was completed in 1948.
Founded from roots going back to 1938 as the Orthodox Congregation Jacob Joseph of Miami Beach, the congregation evolved through several transformations to become the oldest Conservative synagogue on Miami Beach. Today, Temple Emanu-El welcomes Jewish individuals, couples, and families of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds, offering participatory Shabbat and holiday services, life-cycle events, adult education, and community programming.
In addition to religious services, the temple hosts the Muss Family Montessori School on its campus and offers spiritual retreats, holiday celebrations, and social events for its members and the broader South Beach Jewish community.
