About Temple Israel of New Rochelle
Founded in 1908, Temple Israel of New Rochelle is a warm and inclusive synagogue serving as a spiritual home for families and individuals committed to Reform Judaism. The congregation was established by a small group of Jewish families, mostly of German origin, who had moved from New York City to the suburb of New Rochelle seeking a congregation that interpreted Jewish tradition, liturgy, and rituals in a way more suited to modern times.
Today, Temple Israel describes itself as a community that adds meaning and purpose to modern lives through an inclusive approach to Judaism, living out its values through worship, celebration, lifelong learning, and Tikkun Olam (repair of the world). The synagogue brings together congregants from many different Jewish backgrounds and journeys, fostering an atmosphere where members of all ages work and celebrate together.
Membership benefits include participation in congregational prayer, lifecycle events such as B’nei Mitzvah, weddings, funerals, and baby namings, as well as adult and youth education, brotherhood/sisterhood groups, youth groups, and community and social action opportunities. The temple is located at 1000 Pinebrook Boulevard in New Rochelle, New York, and also offers live-streamed services for remote participation.
