About The Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies

The Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies was founded in 1986 by Holocaust scholar and survivor Dr. Zsuzsanna Ozsváth with the mission of “Teaching the Past, Changing the Future.” Based at the University of Texas at Dallas, the Center has earned an international reputation for excellence and is one of only two schools in the nation offering a master’s or PhD in Holocaust studies.

The Ackerman Center is a distinguished, publicly-engaged academic center offering an in-depth view of the Holocaust, genocide, and human rights studies within a dedicated facility on the UT Dallas campus. It maintains five endowed faculty positions, complemented by additional part- and full-time professors and lecturers, providing students with a rigorous and transformative educational experience.

Beyond its academic programs, the Center runs a substantial public outreach program, including free teacher workshops, film screenings, and lectures from distinguished scholars, such as the annual Burton C. Einspruch Holocaust Lecture Series. The Center is also home to the Barbara Rabin Library, a non-lending research library housing the Arnold A. Jaffe Holocaust Collection and the Franklin H. Littell and Marcia Sachs Littell Collection.
