About The San Diego LGBT Community Center

The San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center, Inc. (d.b.a. The Center) is one of the largest and most vibrant LGBTQ+ community centers in the nation, serving as the San Diego LGBTQ+ community’s anchor organization. Founded in the early 1970s, it began as an answering machine in a borrowed closet and has grown into a regional leader providing more than 100,000 direct service visits each year.

The Center is led by an 11-member board of directors, employs more than 100 paid staff, and utilizes more than 1,200 community volunteers to promote LGBTQ+ health/wellness and human rights. It offers a wide range of programs and services including behavioral health counseling, HIV/HCV and STI testing, housing support (including the Sunburst Youth Housing Project for unhoused LGBTQ+ and HIV+ youth), youth centers, senior services, family programming, Black and Latin@ services, and civic engagement and advocacy work through The Center Advocacy Project.

The Center also runs a Young Professionals Council for emerging LGBTQ+ leaders and allies, and hosts community events such as the LGBTQ+ Luminaries Lunch and Dining Out For Life. It provides services to all San Diego LGBTQ+ community members regardless of immigration status.
