Vashti

Vashti is an independent online magazine and workers’ co-operative offering Jewish perspectives on debates confronting the contemporary British left. Founded in 2019 and based in London, Vashti prioritizes in-depth, critical insight on a wide range of topics relevant to politics, community, and historical inheritance, moving beyond homogenizing visions of Jewish life.

Vashti publishes a weekly newsletter, The Pickle, written by its editorial collective, which examines recent domestic and international news stories from a Jewish leftist perspective. The outlet also publishes a broader selection of original reporting, analysis, and opinion from a range of external contributors, covering the politics, ideas, and culture of the Jewish left and the left more broadly.

Organized as a workers’ cooperative, Vashti’s members maintain varied relationships with Jewish life in Britain and aim to represent a new generation of Jewish identity and expression shaped by contemporary debates over empire, capitalism, climate change, and austerity.
