About Youngstown Area Jewish Federation

The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation (YAJF) is the central organization established to foster the welfare of the entire Jewish community in the Youngstown, Ohio region. Founded in 1935, the Federation coordinates and plans for the future of the community and plays an instrumental role in providing for the social welfare, cultural, programmatic, religious, and educational needs of local Jewish residents, as well as supporting Jews in Israel and around the world.

The Federation serves as the umbrella organization for a wide network of agencies, including the Jewish Community Center (JCC), the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC), Jewish Family & Community Services (JFCS), JMeals, Akiva Academy (Jewish day school), the Commission for Jewish Education, Levy Gardens Assisted Living, Heritage Manor Rehabilitation & Retirement Community, and YAJCA Cemeteries. It also publishes community news through the Jewish Journal Monthly Magazine.

Guided by the Jewish values of Tzedakah (righteous giving), Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), Klal Yisrael (mutual responsibility), and Dor L’Dor (continuity from generation to generation), the Federation’s mission is to sustain and enrich the quality of life for the Jewish people regionally, in Israel, and worldwide. Its programs span Holocaust education and remembrance, Israel advocacy and engagement, senior care, family services, kosher meal delivery, and Jewish learning for all ages.
