About Hebrew College
Founded in 1921 as the Hebrew Teachers College, Hebrew College is a nondenominational graduate school dedicated to deep Jewish learning and inspired leadership. Based in Newton, Massachusetts, the College offers a Rabbinical School, a Cantorial program, graduate degrees in Jewish education and Jewish studies, an undergraduate completion program, and adult and youth learning opportunities through its Tamid community education division.
Hebrew College describes itself as a pluralistic institution open to all forms of Jewish expression, commitment, and practice, welcoming diverse perspectives on Jewish topics while fostering respect for other points of view. It is not formally affiliated with any single religious denomination, aiming instead to serve as a modern “Abraham’s tent” open to anyone pursuing serious Jewish education.
In January 2023, the College relocated to a new shared campus at 1860 Washington Street in Newton, co-located with partners including Temple Reyim, Mayyim Hayyim Living Waters Community Mikveh and Education Center, the Zamir Chorale of Boston, the Jewish Arts Collaborative, the Jewish Women’s Archive, Keshet, and the Massachusetts Board of Rabbis, creating a hub for Jewish life and learning in the Greater Boston area. Hebrew College alumni serve as rabbis, cantors, educators, and communal leaders in synagogues and Jewish organizations across the United States and abroad.
