Role Description The Director of Finance is a full-time on-site role based in Greater Philadelphia, responsible for overseeing all financial operations of Kohelet Yeshiva. This position manages budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, ensuring accurate and timely information for leadership and the board. The Director of Finance will oversee accounting processes, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, general ledger, and cash management, while maintaining strong internal controls and compliance with applicable regulations and nonprofit standards. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing and monitoring the annual operating budget, analyzing financial performance, supporting audits, and optimizing systems and procedures for efficiency and transparency. The role collaborates closely with senior administrators and department heads on financial planning, tuition and fee structures, and long-term strategic initiatives, and may supervise finance staff and external vendors.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis within a school, nonprofit, or similar organization.
- Strong accounting skills with experience in general ledger management, financial reporting, cash flow oversight, and compliance with GAAP and nonprofit regulations.
- Proficiency with financial and accounting software, spreadsheets, and data systems, with the ability to improve processes and ensure data integrity.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and handle multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
- Clear and effective communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders and collaborate across departments.
- Experience supervising staff or managing external vendors, fostering a culture of accountability, service, and professional growth.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field; CPA, MBA, or equivalent advanced credentials are strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with the operations of independent or faith-based schools and alignment with the mission and values of Kohelet Yeshiva.
