American Jewish University (AJU) is a private Jewish university headquartered in Los Angeles, California, formed through the merger of the University of Judaism and the Brandeis-Bardin Institute. Since 1947, AJU has trained Jewish leaders through undergraduate liberal arts education, graduate and professional programs, and rabbinic ordination via its Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies, now located in Beverly Hills.
Beyond formal academics, AJU operates the Whizin Center for Continuing Education, which enrolls thousands of adult learners annually in non-credit courses and hosts a notable public speaker series. Its historic Brandeis-Bardin Campus in Simi Valley is home to Camp Alonim, a beloved Jewish overnight summer camp set on thousands of acres of open land, as well as retreats and community gatherings.
AJU also houses academic think tanks, including the Sigi Ziering Institute focused on Holocaust ethics and the Center for Israel Studies, reflecting its broader mission to advance Jewish scholarship, culture, and communal leadership for the twenty-first century.
