About Claims Conference
The Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference) is a nonprofit organization with offices in New York, Israel, and Germany that secures material compensation for Holocaust survivors around the world. Founded in 1951 by representatives of 23 major international Jewish organizations, the Claims Conference negotiates for and disburses funds to individuals and organizations and seeks the return of Jewish property stolen during the Holocaust.
The Claims Conference represents world Jewry in negotiating for compensation and restitution for victims of Nazi persecution and their heirs. Through ongoing negotiations with the German government, the organization has secured billions of dollars in payments and services for Holocaust survivors, funding home care, social services, food assistance, medicine, and emergency aid for those in need.
In addition to direct compensation programs, the Claims Conference funds Holocaust education, documentation, and research initiatives worldwide. The organization also supports Holocaust remembrance projects and works to preserve survivor testimony for future generations. With a special focus on the welfare of aging survivors, the Claims Conference continues to advocate for justice and recognition more than seven decades after the end of World War II.
