About Jewish Federation Bay Area
Jewish Federation Bay Area (formerly the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund) is the central Jewish philanthropic organization serving San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin, and Sonoma counties. Rooted in more than a century of service, the Federation operates as an integrated community foundation, inspiring personal and collaborative philanthropy while facilitating grantmaking, impact lending, and advocacy on behalf of the Bay Area Jewish community.
The Federation’s mission is to mobilize innovation, collaboration, and investment to shape diverse and dynamic Bay Area Jewish communities where people find meaningful connection to Judaism and to each other. Guided by Jewish values such as building community (kehilla), taking care of the needy (tzedakah), pursuing justice (tzedek), and repairing the world (tikkun olam), the organization funds a broad network of Jewish human and social service agencies, day schools, camps, and cultural institutions.
The Federation is active in crisis response and emergency relief, mobilizing resources for Israel and Jewish communities in need during times of war, natural disaster, or rising antisemitism. It also invests in the long-term future of Jewish life through initiatives supporting Jewish day schools, early childhood programs, Birthright trips, and PJ Library, helping ensure Jewish identity and community continue to flourish across the region.
