Improv Yourself is L’Annexe’s monthly get-together where we use improv as a tool to practice, improve, and refine our social, communication, and relational skills.
Through group activities drawing on various techniques from improvisational theatre, participants have the opportunity to:
– Practice listening and conversation skills,
– Build confidence,
– Increase spontaneity and reciprocity, and
– Improve social skills in a safe, supportive environment .
We encourage participants to experiment, try new ways of connecting with others, and discover new ways of expressing themselves – and then to see the effects unfold as they use those skills in everyday life!
Each monthly session is a unique one-time event that reflects the participation of all those who make up the group for the evening. (One need not have participated in prior sessions of the group to attend a given meet-up.) Come when you can. Come when you want to. One of the best parts of this group is that it’s a therapeutic activity where you can get a great deal of benefit from a low level of commitment – all while having fun, meeting people, and having new experiences!
This group is open to anyone aged 16 to 35 – anyone, meaning: whether or not they have prior experience with improv or theatre, or have any specific identity, diagnosis or lack thereof, etc.
Whether you’re looking to improve your social skills, simply meet new people, or just have fun in a creative space, Improv Yourself is the place to be.
If this is your first time coming to L’Annexe:
– L’Annexe events, activities, and services are open to young adults of any background / identity who are aged from 16 to 35 years old.
– Please note that L’Annexe is located inside the Sylvan Adams YM-YWHA . When arriving at the building, visitors must ring a doorbell and state the reason for their visit to be let in. You can simply say “I’m here to go to L’Annexe.” Upon entering the building, there is a welcome desk with a security agent who reserves the right to check visitors’ bags.
– The path to L’Annexe from there is sadly NOT physically accessible to those who cannot climb a flight of stairs.
